ICYMI: Caribou Engagement Sessions happening tonight

Those who want their questions answered on the draft agreements to conserve southern mountain caribou populations will get a chance next week.

Two draft agreements have been developed under section 11 of the federal Species at Risk Act. A draft section 11 agreement between British Columbia and Canada sets a framework for co-operation between the two governments to recover southern mountain caribou.

Mayor Lyn Hall said he thinks the sessions will bring representatives from a number of different sectors.

“That’s one of the things that we always wanted to be at the table. It’s an opportunity to exactly find out what’s happening on the government’s side, the resource sector and the recreation sector’s side. What is the impact on the land base for access on both the resource and recreation side?”

“I’m glad it’s happening, do I wish it would have happened sooner? Yes. But this is the process that we’re into now.”

Staff from the provincial and federal governments will share information about the draft agreements and will be available to answer questions.

The meeting takes place at the Prince George Civic Centre on Tuesday, April 9, from 5:30-9:30 p.m and at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre on Wednesday, April 10 from 5:30-9:30 p.m.
