One dead, one injured after hit and run, police searching for the suspect

Police are investigating and searching for a suspect following an early morning hit and run collision that has killed a man in a wheelchair and seriously injured another.

Just after midnight this morning (Saturday) , an officer from the Prince George RCMP was on patrol on Victoria Street between 15th and 17th Avenue when he came across what appeared to be collision scene.

The officer located two adult males suffering from injuries and a severely damaged electric-powered wheelchair and bicycle.  The two men were transported to hospital for treatment.

Investigators believe that the adult male in the wheelchair and the adult male on the bike were struck by a north bound vehicle that did not stop.

The 48 year old occupant of the wheelchair, has since passed away as a result of injuries sustained.  The 56 year old bicycle rider is recovering from injuries and expected to survive.

Through investigation, officers believe that the suspect’s vehicle is a dark coloured 2012 or 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  This vehicle will have extensive damage to the passenger side.  Anyone with information about this vehicle or that locates this vehicle, is asked to contact police immediately.

The Prince George RCMP have many resources assisting with this investigation.  Investigators are urging the driver to do the right thing and turn themselves into police.
