Prince George men in hot water after boat theft

The quick-thinking of the RCMP has resulted in the conviction of a pair of men from Prince George.

After witnessing a pickup truck hauling a jet boat back in December of 2018, RCMP in McBride attempted to stop the vehicle to ensure registration was legitimate.

“Being December, and winter, that caught the eye of the members of the detachment,” Cpl. Madonna Saunderson told MyPGNow.

It was quickly learned that — as suspected — the vehicle and boat were both stolen.

32-year-old Daniel Webster, the driver of the vehicle, failed to stop for police, however, he and 30-year-old Michael Rickett were later arrested in Clearwater after a night long Police Dog Service search, which involved both Prince George and Kamloops PDS units.

Webster has been held in custody since the initial arrest and has been sentenced to an additional eight-month jail term. Upon his release, Webster will be on probation for a year, as well as a five-year Criminal Driving Prohibition.

The conviction includes charges from McBride, as well as numerous charges from Calgary.

As for Rickett, he is scheduled to appear before B.C. Provincial Court in McBride to answer to three counts of Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000.
