Firearms charges laid against local man after run-in with police

A 26-year-old Prince George man is in custody following an incident with police.

It happened just after 8pm on Tuesday when police observed a suspicious vehicle at the intersection of 5th and Tabor.

The driver of the pick-up truck did not stop for police and fled eastbound on 5th Avenue and ran a red light.

During the same hour, a resident noticed a man taking bikes and other items out of the truck and stashing the items in a wooded area on Gillett Street.

Police then located the suspect on a bike and arrested him where they then found a loaded firearm.

He has been slapped with a slew of charges including possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Here is the full list:

  • Carry a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon without a license
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Possession of a firearm for the purpose of transferring it
  • Fail to report found firearm

The suspect will appear in court today (Thu) and has past police involvement in Terrace, Dease Lake, Alberta, and Prince George.
