Thieves smash Shhhh Gifts door, steal $5000 in one minute

Just one minute cost a local boutique store upwards of $5000.00 this morning.

Around 3:00 (Wednesday), owner Shannon Horrigan said one of her employees was called by their security company to alert them of a break-in at their location on Westwood Drive.

According to her, a man and a woman were caught on security video breaking into the store by throwing rocks through the front door and were in and out in just under a minute.

“They came in and took the laptop off our counter, didn’t even unhook it, so he’s running around with the cable. Then he stole the display of MeditationRings, so those are silver and gold,” she said.

Among the other items stolen were a bag of SAXXS underwear, necklaces and rings, and items from Lamp Berger.

With the cost of the smashed door, the laptop and all of the goods, Horrigan said the break-in will cost anywhere from $5000.00 – $6000.00.

“We can possibly get insurance, but you have to go through so many hoops and then your deductible is $2500.00 so sometimes it doesn’t make sense.”

When her store was last broken into in 2015, Horrigan said they ate the cost because the amount stolen equaled out to what the deductible would have been.

“I’m pissed off that people think they can just steal what they want. The police do their job, but then the thieves just get a slap on the wrist, there’s no reprimand for them.”

She asked that the community be on the lookout for people selling the unique items around town or on community Facebook pages.
