UPDATE: Hwy 97 closed, two armed robbery suspects in custody

The arrest of two suspects in an armed robbery earlier today has resulted in the closure of Highway 97 at Noranda Road.

“About 11 am this morning our officers located a suspect vehicle associated to an armed robbery home invasion earlier today,” said Operating Officer Shaun Wright

“As a result of that, there was an altercation at the scene where several vehicles were damaged and two suspects fled on foot. There were subsequently arrested shortly thereafter.”

One police vehicle could be seen in the ditch, but it only resulted in very minor injuries to an officer.

Wright said one shot was fired during the incident but no one was injured.

According to the RCMP, the road may be closed for three hours.

The Prince George RCMP are currently investigating a priority incident that occurred near the intersection of Highway 97 (Hart Highway) and Noranda Road in Prince George.

This portion of Highway 97 at Knell Road will be closed in both directions while police investigate.

RCMP said there is no public safety concerns.

Traffic blocked in both directions, at least six police cars near Noranda road on the Hart Highway.

No information yet on the cause or how long the highways will be blocked.
