The Port Coquitlam Hitmen were exactly that in the final game of the Senior C Provincial/Glen Scott Invitational in Prince George on Sunday cruising to a 17-8 victory over the Northand Nissan Assault.

The Hitmen blew open an 8-7 game late in the second period and went on a 9-1 scoring run the rest of way to go a perfect 4-0 in Kin 1.

It is the second consecutive Senior C title for PoCo who were led by Quinton Pavin thanks to a marksman-like effort with four goals.

After the game with MyPGNow.com, Pavin touched on the team’s offensive prowess around the net.

“We try to give it to the guys who know how to execute and everybody knows their role, plays their role and that’s what a team is about. If everyone can buy in to what they are good at we can all succeed together.”

PoCo were one of the two teams from outside the Prince George area to compete at the tournament along with Vancouver Island based Wsanec Arrows.

Pavin believes going up against unfamiliar opponents and other skilled players from around the province is beneficial on many levels.

“It’s great. It’s more exposure for the game and it grows the game everywhere and helps us all out to see new faces and they bring a new chemical reaction to the game as it makes it healthy and fresh.”

The defeat for the Assault was a disappointing blow for players like Doug Porter who had the pleasure of playing alongside RPR Mechanical/JR Construction Bandits star Drew Doig who suited up for Northland Nissan in the tournament along with a few other faces from other teams.

“They (The Hitmen) wanted to amp it up after we got within one and they are a good team so they could take it to that extra level and they know how to play good lacrosse.”

“Even though we came out with the loss, I felt we still had a pretty decent game we moving the ball well and creating good movement, we just didn’t score enough today.”

In other local lacrosse action, the Prince George Posse captured a bronze medal in the B Division at the 2019 Subway-BC Lacrosse Association Minor Box Midget Provincial Championships in Langley.
