Update: Broken culvert results in 12-foot deep sinkhole

Update at 4:40 p.m.:

According to the City’s spokesperson Michael Kellett, issues with a culvert resulted in a 12-inch in diameter hole that went 12 feet deep.

“What had happened is a pipe leading into the culvert was compromised and broken, and so it was pulling dirt into it, into the larger culvert and away from the site,” Kellett told MyPGNow what caused the sinkhole to form in the first place.

City crews will be back onsite tomorrow (Friday) to determine a course of action in repairing the damaged culvert and filling in the hole.

Highly-visible fencing surrounds the site and the City recommends that residents steer clear of the area.

Original Story:

Pictures surfaced on social media of a sinkhole developing along the sidewalk of Victoria Street, south of Milburn Avenue.

This morning, City crews were on scene digging up the pavement along the east side of the street, further exposing the hole.

MyPGNow has reached out to the City for further information and will provide updates as they become available.
