ICBC is reminding drivers to be careful over Labour Day long weekend.
According to them, 19 people are injured in 120 crashes on average every year in the North Central region.
“We know there’s going to be a lot of people out on the road enjoying the northern part of BC. One of the things people need to keep in mind is to enjoy it, but make sure you’re taking some precautions out on the roads,” Doug Macdonald, ICBC Road Safety and Community Coordinator.
“It’s really important that you have patience when you’re out there with other drivers, who may be from out of town, who may be from another province and don’t know the roads as well. Give drivers space and expect the unexpected.”
“On highways, expect to see many RVs, motorcyclists, and trucks. If you’re staying in town, expect more pedestrians and cyclists on the road. The key to sharing the road safely is to stay focused on driving and look out for the road users around you. Avoid distractions which will take your eyes off the road and your mind off driving.”
ICBC said that approximately five people die and 610 people are injured in 2,200 crashes across the province over the Labour Day long weekend.
