Punjabi Canadian Senior Society gets the wheels rollin’

A group of 20 cyclists gathered in the parking lot of the Guru Nanak Darbar Sikh Temple in College Heights Saturday morning.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m., that same group then departed, officially getting the 10th Annual Bike-A-Thon underway as they began their trip to Purden Lake, just east of Prince George along Highway 16.

Curtis Mayes, Community Giving Coordinator with the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, caught up with MyPGNow just as the trip was beginning.

He spoke of the man who’s been behind organizing the event year after year.

“The man who never wants credit for anything is Gordie Powar, and he is absolutely amazing. Every year, he runs this thing and we see him coming in and out of the Spirit office. He’s just a fantastic pillar within the community.”

Since 2010, the Bike-A-Thon has raised more than $130,000 to support healthcare initiatives in Northern BC through Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
