With the days getting shorter and the mornings a bit colder, drivers and pedestrians in Prince George are adjusting to the challenges of the fall season.
The Prince George RCMP would like to see fewer vehicle/pedestrian incidents during this time.
Cpl. Craig Douglass told MyPGNow.com it’s important for pedestrians to make eye contact with drivers before stepping out.
“We want to emphasize that yes, you may be in a crosswalk but whether it’s your right of way or not, it is your responsibility to make sure that the vehicle is stopping before crossing so that your not a victim.”
Douglass states the local detachment will be doing some safety work with the public to ensure pedestrians do their part during the shoulder season.
“That’ll be happening very soon in terms of public appeals and making sure you are wearing proper reflectors and making eye contact with drivers before stepping out onto the roads.”
He adds with the fewer daylight hours, proper lighting, on your vehicle or bike is also important this time of year.
