A busy Prince George intersection is getting a makeover and it’s the last project of its kind for this year.
Crews are repaving the sidewalk running along 3rd Avenue in front of the Prince George Native Friendship Centre.
The operation is the final road and sidewalk rehabilitation project scheduled for 2019 and the last of a variety of City projects aimed at improving safety for motorists as well as pedestrians of all mobility levels.
Chris Vliegenthart, Supervisor of Transportation Engineering with the City of Prince George, said the prioritization of these projects depends on several factors.
“We do look at road classification and the volumes of traffic including vehicles and pedestrians and cyclists. We look at comments, complaints, and concerns by residents and the people of Prince George. We look at incident history and talk with ICBC and the RCMP about the areas that they’ve highlighted as high risk,” he said.
“Obviously price does come into effect for some and if we don’t have the money for a particular site then we’ll do something that we do have the money for and then come back to that one. That’s a factor in any project though.”
