Cougars shoot themselves in the Foote

Give the Kelowna Rockets an inch and they will take a foot(e).

Nolan Foote (13) snapped a 2-2 tie with his second power-play goal of the game at 7:41 of the third period to give the Kelowna Rockets a 3-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars.

With 30 points in 23 games, Foote has made a habit out of scoring many of his goals with the man advantage.

Sean Comrie (3) gave Kelowna a 2-0 lead early in the second period before Josh Maser (11), on a power-play, and  Connor Bowie (5) tallied later in the second period to tie the game.

The Rockets have won four of five games against the Cougars this season.

Kelowna also outshot Prince George 26-21 in front of 5,656 fans at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Roman Basran picked up the win in net while  Taylor Gauthier suffered the loss.

The (14-8-1-2) Rockets (5-0-0-1 in their last six games) are second in the BC Division, four points behind Kamloops and three ahead of Victoria and Vancouver.

The (6-17-0-2) Cougars are 13 points behind (12-10-2-1) Tri-City for the last Western Conference wild-card playoff spot with both teams having played 25 games.

Seven of the last nine Prince George games have been decided by just one goal.

The Cougars will play their next four games against the (16-6-1-2) Winterhawks: Tuesday and Wednesday at CN Centre and Dec. 7th and 8th in Portland.

The Winterhawks are tied with (17-6-1) Everett for the U.S. Division lead.
