Local animal charity looking to gain traction this holiday season

Many people are aware of problems with animal shelter overcrowding, but one Prince George resident decided to do something about it.

In February of this year, Andrea Sowers decided to start a charity, LUV 4 PAWS, to combat animal homelessness.

While the charity is currently unregistered, Sowers says it is currently undergoing the process of becoming a fully recognized non-profit.

This past weekend the organization’s “Pet Photos with Santa” event was hosted at Petland in Prince George, and allowed pet owners to get pictures taken by donation.

Participants primarily donated pet food and other animal care products.

Sowers’ relies on individuals within the community to foster the 69 cats and dogs associated with her charity.

Andrea emphasized the importance of other local animal organizations such as the SPCA and Humane Society, explaining: “there’s always going to be a need, and the need is quite great,”

More information can be found on the LUV 4 PAWS Facebook page.
