Larger bike racks planned for BC Transit buses

Taking your bike from the road on to the bus will soon be more convenient for B.C. cyclists.

BC Transit announced a plan to update bike racks on its buses to accommodate bikes with tires of up to 3 centimeters in width, a full centimeter more than their predecessors.

Instead of a complete overhaul, the company is opting to replace the old models as they get damaged or as new buses join the fleet.

BC Transit Communications Manager, Jonathon Dyck said the project is an answer to long-time customer demand.

“We are pleased we are moving forward with this even though it will take some time to get implemented,” he explained. “It depends on when bike racks need to be replaced, some hang on longer than others.”

The new racks have already been rolled out in Whistler, Nanaimo, Kamloops, and Squamish and eventually will make their way to the 27 buses in Prince George.

“The early reviews have been really positive. People find them much more convenient.”

Dyck said this project is evidence of the importance of customer feedback.
