UPDATE: Weather continues to determine Ice Oval schedule

The PG Outdoor Ice Oval is open today (Sunday).

It hosted a Master’s long blade skate for advanced speedskaters today.

Ice Oval official Dick Voneugan explained determining the oval status for the day is a ‘case by case’ basis.

“It’s open today, I’m a bit amazed because I was standing at the heart and it was only -0.6!”

“We can’t predict one day to the other, but the long term future looks good for now.”

He added the inconsistent schedule has put more pressure on the team to get refrigeration for the oval.

The Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval is yet again closed due to weather concerns.

The ice report states that there were thin sections of ice with water underneath, making for unsafe conditions.

The Ice Oval hopes to reopen tomorrow as temperatures are expected to dip back below freezing.

Updates will be posted as they become available.
