Prince George’s Canfor Administration Centre snags Polar Cup victory

Each year, Canfor’s divisions compete to see who can donate the most money per capita to The United Way in a contest called the Canfor Polar Cup.

The tradition started about twenty years ago according to Duncan Smith, Canfor’s Regional HR Manager.

“Our Admin Centre here in Prince George won for the second year in a row, with $37,500 – an increase of $3,600 from last year,” said Smith.

When asked if he believed they could win for the third year, Smith replied: “we’re going for a hat trick.”

“Our region is from Quesnel to the Yukon Border and from Haida Gwaii to the Alberta border. Canfor stretches a little bit outside that, but they are predominantly within our region,” explained Michele Brooke, Resource Development Officer for the United Way of Northern BC.

“Funds raised in a community go back to that community… they go to regional and local programs,” she concluded.

Canfor has raised $1.47 million dollars over the last 5 years at their Canadian operations.
