Covid-19 Update: One new case in the North, BC reports 29 new infections

29 people have tested positive for Covid-19, including one new case in Northern Health, in a three day period, say BC Health Officials.

“In the first reporting period from June 5 to June 6, we had 14 new cases. In the second reporting period from June 6 to June 7, we had six cases and in the last 24 hours we have had a further nine cases,” said Provincial Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry.

There was also one additional epi-linked case, bringing the provincial total to 2,659, and Northern Health is at 65.

Every new case reported since the last update happened in Fraser Health, which means there are still no active cases in Northern, Interior, or Island Health.

There were also no deaths reported, leaving BC’s total to 167, something Provincial Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry says is ‘heartening.’

There are currently 183 active cases in British Columbia, and of those, 16 people are in hospital and four are in intensive care.

“There have been no new community outbreaks and the outbreaks at Fraser Valley Specialty Poultry and Superior Poultry have also been declared over. Public health teams are providing support for the six ongoing community outbreaks,” said Doctor Henry.

She says visitors should contact local communities before they visit, especially a smaller community.

“When you hit the open roads this summer, you are not leaving COVID-19 behind. The precautions you take at home should also be taken when you are away.”

“Like all of us, B.C.’s communities are doing what is best for them. Some towns and regions who rely on tourism are eager to welcome B.C. visitors with safety measures in place, while others who are challenged to support large numbers are asking visitors to keep their stays short,” added Doctor Henry.

2,309 people have made a full recovery, which works out to roughly 87 percent.

On moving to Phase three, she adds there is no specific date because of how many things opened last week, including schools.

She adds the second incubation period since the re-opening ends next week.

Correction: MyPGNow previously reported that Northern Health saw no new cases in the region during the three day reporting period, however, updated numbers from BC Health Officials have included one new case in the North.
