NBA:
–There will be new NBA champions. The Toronto Raptors season ended after a 92-87 loss to the Boston Celtics in the 7th and deciding game of their second round series. The Celtics advance to the Eastern Conference final against the Miami Heat beginning Tuesday.
–The Denver Nuggets extended their season with a come from behind 111-105 victory over the LA Clippers. The Clippers lead 3-2 with Game 6 Sunday at 10AM (PT).
–The LA Lakers can advance to the Western Conference final with a win tonight against the Houston Rockets. Tip-off is just after 5:00 (PT). The Lakers enjoy a 3-1 lead.
NHL:
–The New York Islanders beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 to cut the Tampa lead to 2-1 in the NHL Eastern Conference final. Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday at noon (PT).
–The Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights resume the Western final tonight at 5:00. The Stars lead the series 2-1.
–Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche has won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy as the player who best exemplified sportsmanship, gentlemanly conduct and ability. The voting is done by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association at the end of the regular season.
BCHL:
–The BCHL has announced they will start its season in December even if fans are not allowed in the building. For the first time in league history, players will be asked to pay a fee to participate.
MLB:
–The New York Mets scored 10 runs in the 4th inning and they went on to crush the Toronto Blue Jays 18-1. The (24-20) Jays have just 16 games left. They host the (21-24) Mets again today (3:37 PT) in Buffalo.
Tennis:
–Victoria Azarenka will play 2018 champion Naomi Osaka in the women’s final this afternoon (1:00) at the US Open. The men’s final on Sunday features Alexander Zverev, the No. 5 seed, against No. 2 seed Dominic Thiem. The winner will earn his first Grand Slam trophy.
NFL:
–There are 13 games on the first Sunday of the NFL regular season including Seattle at Atlanta and Tampa Bay at New Orleans.
