The B-C Nurses Union will be pursuing legal action any time a nurse is assaulted on the job.
The union has noticed that nurses are being abused in all parts of healthcare system from acute to long term care.
Vice-President Christine Sorensen says they get regular reports of this happening.
“That they are bit, spit at, hit, punched, kicked,” says Sorensen, “and so this is a regular occurrence by nurses everyday and this is just to not be tolerated any more.”
Sorensen says they want to make sure nurses can go to work safe everyday.
Also they want to make sure that nurses don’t become patients themselves.
