Special gang enforcement team returns to PG ; drugs, weapons and cash seized

The PG RCMP detachment brought in the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia’s Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) last weekend.

During their work last Thursday (12th) and Saturday (14th), they confiscated large amounts of methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl, thousands of dollars in cash, and multiple weapons including two firearms.

“Usually a few times a year the PG RCMP invites UGET to come and help us with activity related to violence and drugs, essentially organized crime,” said PG RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass.

This comes as part of the PG RCMP’s ongoing efforts to target drug trafficking and organized crime in the city

“In the last couple of months we’ve had a number of violent incidences, although those incidences have died off we have asked them to come up as a follow-up,” added Douglass

He noted when there are spikes in violence due to the drug trade or organized crime in certain neighbourhoods or a particular residence, police will implement resources to target that area.

UGET took to the streets of Quesnel last Friday and seized drugs, ammunition, cash and a multitude of weapons including a crossbow, during their investigations.

Throughout their time in PG and Quesnel, UGET also checked 160 persons, stopped 130 vehicles and seized over $10,000 in cash.
