Community rallies together for 11-year-old battling Cancer

A GoFundMe page for 11-year-old Brody Dery, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, has already raised nearly $9,000.

Donors smashed the $5,000 fundraising goal within the first day of the campaign, which was only started yesterday (Thursday).

“My heart is just so happy to see the support we have received from the community,” stated the campaign organizer and close family friend, Britney Rumbaugh.

Rumbaugh explained that his diagnosis isn’t the only thing that has taken a toll on their family, as Dery’s father is also a Cancer survivor.

“This family really needs some sort of a break, so that’s really what we’re pushing for here,” added Rumbaugh.

The family will find out later today (Friday) how long treatment will take, but they’re aiming to keep the campaign open until at least Christmas.

Additionally, Dery has been battling Crohn’s disease for the last few years, and complications have lead to a number of trips to Vancouver for treatment.

The funding will help ease the financial burden of repetitive trips to the lower mainland.
