COVID-19 cases in Prince George slowly trend upwards

Prince George saw 33 people test positive for COVID-19 between March 7th to 13th, which is 2 more reported than the week prior.

According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, 0.1 to 5 cases are being reported for every 100,000 people in the region.

The community opened up the doors to its COVID-19 vaccination clinic this week and is booking around 200 seniors eligible for the vaccine per day.

Meanwhile, Quesnel has gone two weeks without seeing a single case.

The case counts in the Peace River North and South regions remain relatively steady, with the South seeing 26, up by 5 and the Northern region seeing 27, the same as the week prior.

Headed out West, the Burns Lake and Smithers regions only saw 2 cases each.

The spike in cases in Kitimat and Terrace have started to trend down as well, seeing 11 and 23 respectively, which is down by 30 in Terrace and by 3 in Kitimat.

However, Prince Rupert reported 11 more cases this week than before after seeing 117.

Residents in Prince Rupert aged 18 and up are now eligible to get vaccinated at their community’s clinic.

It was recently announced that 15,000 doses of the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine will be sent to industrial worksites in the North, including Site C in Fort St.John.
