Three-week suspension on in-person dining a huge blow to PG restaurants

Downtown PG President Eoin Foley believes the province’s three-week ban on indoor dining is a tough pill to swallow.

The announcement from Health Officials kicks in at midnight tonight (Monday) and will run until April 19th.

However, take-out, delivery, and patio seating are still allowed.

Foley, who owns and operates Nancy O’s and Betulla Burning told MyPGNow.com the restaurant industry has gone above and beyond expectations.

“The restaurant business, in general, has been a shining spot in the whole COVID situation in the last year and has been in a success story on how to react to it, it feels like we are a bit hard done by in that respect.”

However, the tightened restrictions will mean some tough conversations with staff members.

“Every other restaurant in town is going to have to scale back staff to various degrees and we are going to have to have them lean on government assistance. We are hoping the province will react quickly so they can be taken care of so they pay their rent and put food on the table.”

Additionally, the previous announcement of variance’s surrounding indoor holiday religious services is also suspended, however, the outdoor variances will still be in place.

Public health guidance for schools has also been amended to support and encourage students down to Grade 4 to wear masks while at school.
