Around 30 to 40 people gathered close to CN Centre on Ospika Blvd this morning (Saturday) to attend an “Anti COVID-19” rally.

Carrying various signs reading statements such as, “he has awakened” to “COVID SUCKS”, PG residents were chanting and protesting a range of issues while audio from early COVID-19 briefings played through a stereo.

Some of these issues include Dr. Bonnie Henry, the legitimacy of the virus, recent statements from Premier John Horgan surrounding transmission among BC’s youth and the news media.

One protestor named Johnathon explained that he wasn’t there for any specific issue, but more to have ‘the other side’ represented.

“There are two sides to every story and we just want to present a different narrative and a different way of looking at what is actually going on,” he explained, “we’re all here for different reasons and to stand up for each individual and what they believe.”

Johnathon also explained that they were holding the rally to bring the community together in a time where mental health is declining for many.

“It has a lot to do with relationships, we’re here to give a hug or a handshake and tell you that you’re loved for and cared for,” he noted, “I know first hand some employees of mine and my family members are struggling immensely.”

This is the fourth consecutive week that a rally has been held, and for the first time, today police made an appearance.

However, Johnathon explained that there had been no issue with the police, and they were just checking in and making sure everyone was safe.
