It was a historical day for the women and girls of Lheidli T’enneh First Nations.
The new Chief of Lheidli T’enneh, Dolleen Logan was sworn today (Saturday) in at Ron Seymour Memorial Park.
Logan is the first woman to be elected as Chief since 1969 when Mary Pius held the position.
Mayor Lyn Hall and Regina Toth, the granddaughter of Mary Pius, administered the Oath of Office to Logan and councilors.
“I am extremely proud to be the 2nd woman Chief in Lheidli T’enneh history,” said Logan.
She has worked with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation for 13 years and served as a councilor for 6 of them.
“My key message to members is that Council’s doors are always open,” said Logan, “we will respond to your calls, texts, and emails in a timely fashion.”
Additionally, Logan says she will involve community members in all major decisions and regularly meet with elders to hear their voices as soon as it is safe to do so.
“We all get a say in what our future looks like,” she noted.
The Chair of the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George Art Kaehn and Administrator Jim Martin administered the Oath of Office to three members of the Lands Authority Committee during the
ceremony.
Councilors Helen Buzas, Josh Seymour, Dominic Frederick ‘Domo’, Crystal Gibbs, and Marcel Gagnon were also sworn in as well.
The election came to an end on April 8th, with Logan beating Jason Gillis and incumbent Chief Clay Pountney with 151 votes.
