Nechako Bottle Depot robbed after bear spray attack

Police are currently investigating a robbery that included a bear spray attack at the Nechako Bottle Depot.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon just before 3:30, when the assailant entered the building, bear sprayed an employee and customer and ran off with cash from the register.

The caller described the attacker as a male sporting an orange safety jacket and black pants who hopped into a black Chevrolet Sunfire parked on 3rd Avenue before leaving the area.

“Witnesses observed the male running across 1st Avenue and into the wooded area toward 3rd Avenue. Police Dog Services and Air 3 attended the location to assist frontline members with the
search for the male,” said PG RCMP Constable Jennifer Cooper.

Investigators believe the vehicle could’ve been spray painted, and are looking to speak with anyone who has seen, or knows the whereabouts of a similar vehicle in Prince George.

Police are still determining exactly how much cash was stolen from the depot, as the investigation is ongoing.
