The Aboriginal Housing Society of Prince George is welcoming submissions to their Every Child Matters Arts Contest.
The contest winner will have their artwork featured on about 400 orange shirts that will be handed to the Society’s tenants.
According to Aboriginal Housing Society Spokesperson, Camille Moore, this event was initially thought up as a fun, COVID-safe way for the Society to remain active in the community and get residents involved with their work.
“We wanted to focus on a virtual way to celebrate our arts, and with the orange shirts we wanted to affiliate the event with awareness of the 215 children found in Kamloops as well,” explained Moore.
The society has already had a handful of submissions and is hoping to showcase all of the submissions in a virtual slideshow to be presented on the organization’s Facebook page on Monday.
“I’m really hoping all of our local artists come out and submit their entries before Friday at 12pm,” added Moore.
The first-place winner will get their artwork printed on the shirts being handed out for free across town, 4 shirts for their family, and will also receive a $200 gift card to either the Pepper Tree, Angelique’s Native Arts, or Chilako Meats.
The second and third place winners will receive a $100 gift card to one of the three aforementioned Indigenous-owned businesses of their choosing, along with a shirt featuring the winner’s design.
Designs of all forms are being accepted, however, it must be possible to submit them through email.
All submissions must be emailed to [email protected] before noon on Friday, more information can be found through the Aboriginal Housing Society’s website.Â
