The RCMP in Prince George has launched an impaired driving investigation following a two-vehicle crash that involved an unmarked police car.
Just after 2:30 pm yesterday (Sunday), officers received a report of a motor vehicle incident at the intersection of Highway 16 West and 20th Avenue.
Police responded immediately and learned one of the vehicles involved was an unmarked police car with an officer and mental health nurse inside.
It belonged to the Car 60 program, which operates in partnership with the detachment and Northern Health.
“Thankfully, no one suffered a serious injury in the collision. The Mental Health Nurse and the Police Officer went to the hospital for an assessment of their injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition for impairment by drug and was released without further process, pending the full results of the investigation,” stated Cst. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.
Officers spoke with witnesses at the scene.
If anyone else saw the incident or has dashcam footage of the collision, they are asked to contact the Prince George RCMP.
