Mother Nature cranked up the heat for PG in July

Much like the rest of BC, it was a hot and dry July here in Prince George.

According to Environment Canada, the average daily temperature was 16.8, which is a full degree above average.

The northern capital only saw two-thirds of its usual rainfall for the month recording 39 millimetres of precipitation.

Meteorologist, Doug Lundquist told MyPGNow.com the scorching heat we saw across the province has been nothing short of unprecedented.

“I have never seen a month like this ever. In my 34 years, this has been off the charts. You were one of the few spots that got lucky enough to get precipitation because if you look further south places like Williams Lake and Vernon had their hottest and driest July ever.”

Lundquist mentioned the warmer-than-normal conditions are likely to stretch well past August.

“Even into fall, we might continue with above-average temperatures in general, and our outlook for the next three months is for the most likely scenario of it being hotter than average and that would be for the last month of summer and the first two months of fall.”

He added there is the possibility of another blast of hot weather could be in store for PG this month.

“We are looking for the possibility of a ridge of high pressure may be building for the middle of the month to give us one last kick at the cat of the really hot kind of weather. It’s sort of off and on right now in our long-range outlook but do keep that in mind just in case we do get it.”

Daytime highs in the high 20’s are being predicted for today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday) before cooling off by the weekend.
