The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum in Prince George is holding their new exhibit, “Derailed: keeping the click-clack on the track” until mid-October.
The exhibit focuses on the experience of auxiliary crews, who would respond to railway cleanup calls.
“The focus of the exhibit is the Seton Lake derailment, where two locomotives actually plunged into Seton Lake,” said Museum Curator Maria Martins.
Martins said they had the opportunity to interview an auxiliary crew for BC Rail, including a crane operator.
“After this interview, we just understood so much more about the equipment that we had in the park.”
She added that many people might not know how important railways are to Northern BC, and that much of their equipment at the museum focuses on resource carriers and maintenance equipment.
“When people think of railways in general I think it’s a very romantic notion. They think of tourism and passenger service. And we’ve never had that kind of railway up here.”
Martins said they made the exhibit fun and bright and have things like colouring and an interactive diorama for kids.
