The defending champion Westwood Pub Devils began their Prince George Senior Lacrosse season by crushing the Quesnel Crossfire 16-2. Both Pierce Watson (4 + 2) and Cameron Braun (2+4) notched six points each for the Devils, who went a perfect 24-0 last season.

PG Senior Lacrosse has a pair of Saturday night games in Quesnel. The Westwood Pub Devils take on the Cowboy Ranch Stylers at 6 followed by the Bandits against the Quesnel Crossfire at 8.

Next PG Senior Lacrosse in Prince George goes Monday night at 8 at the Coliseum with the Devils up against Northland/Nissan Assault.

–Prince George Cougars minority owner Dan Hamhuis scored once and added an assist to help Canada to a 6-1 opening day victory over Latvia at the World Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic. Hamhuis is an assistant captain on the Canadian team that will play Germany on Sunday.

–Prince George Black Diamond Lanes bowlers compete in the Senior Girls team division and Bantam Single Girls at the 5-pin YBC Nationals in Toronto. Competition runs Saturday to Monday. The PG Sr Girls team includes Megan Reimer, Kassidy Johnson, Paige Meise and Lezzyl Aquino. Competing in Bantam Girls is 11-year-old Jaydn Arnett.

–The Prince George Track and Field Club has its annual Sub Zero meet Saturday at Masich Place Stadium. About 200 athletes from the region are expected to participate.

–The Prince George Gymnastics club holds its invitational meet and Zone 8 championships Saturday and Sunday.

–The Prince George 15/16U Boys and Girls club volleyball teams participate at the Provincials Saturday and Sunday in Abbotsford.
