Retired SD 57 electrician enters by-election race to become trustee

A third candidate has come forward to run in next month’s School District 57 trustee by-election.

Brian Trotter retired from SD57 in 2018 after more than 34 years as a master electrician – eight of those years were spent in Mackenzie.

Trotter adds he thought about running four years ago and is finally ready to take on the challenge.

“I did think about it seriously then and now I think I am at the right spot on what is going on with my life and I think I can commit my time to this job.”

Trotter is also entering the race with a much different viewpoint than the rest of the candidates.

“I don’t want to change the world here, but I feel like I can probably help out with a different outlook with a different set of eyes and ears. I am not an educator, I am coming from a labour background and that is something I can bring a perspective to.”

As SD 57 is considered an educational workspace, Trotter would like to see more trades apprentices hired on.

He will be competing against Audrey McKinnon and Milton Mahoney for the spot in the PG area while another trustee position is up for grabs in Mackenzie.

The by-election is set for January 15th with the deadline to file set for tomorrow (Friday).
