United Way asking PG to ‘Give the Gift of Imagination’

The United Way of Northern BC is hosting another drive in Prince George, this one to help get kids books.

United Way’s book drive is a part of their Tree of Light campaign, which runs until December 23rd.

“While we’re raising funding, we wanted people to have a good idea of the types of things UW puts focus on, so we picked a few areas that need some attention in the PG area United Way of Northern BC Executive Director Trista Spencer.

“Literacy is the building blocks of a successful future, and one of the things that we thought we could do is to with help making literacy accessible to more kids and more families is to do a book drive,” Spencer said.

She said the United Way is looking for books for all age groups and reading levels.

“From zero to six, we obviously need some of those more sensory type books, but then beyond that,” Spencer explained,

“The reading and writing start to kick in, and then the more vulnerable youth still need relevant content for them to be able to be interested in doing that kind of development, especially when they’re a little bit later in the youth part of their life.”

Santa will also be at the drive, anyone is welcome to see and take pictures with him.

Anyone who wishes to donate books can drop them off until the 23rd of this month between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm at the United Way of Northern BC’s office at 1675 15th Avenue.
