The Prince George RCMP called in the Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) for a suspicious device in an abandoned vehicle.
Just before 7:00 a.m. on Monday, police received a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a fence in the 4600 block of First Avenue.
The vehicle was located by police, and discovered the occupants did not remain at the location after the crash.
Police say the registered owner of the vehicle was unavailable, so a local towing company was called to remove it.
While unloading the vehicle at the tow yard, a suspicious device was located in the car.
The car was secured in an area away from the public while they waited for the EDU to travel from the Lower Mainland.
“The Explosive Disposal Unit arrived at the location around 4:30 p.m. that afternoon, and successfully disabled the device,” said PG RCMP Spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.
“Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who saw the crash or has video surveillance or dash cam footage from between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. in that area of First Avenue.”
The investigation is ongoing.
