Worker seriously injured after incident on Simon Fraser Bridge

An investigation has been launched by Work Safe BC after a worker was seriously injured on the Simon Fraser Bridge in Prince George.

Just after 1:30 pm yesterday (Tuesday), WorkSafe was notified and attended the incident site.

The purpose of the investigation is to identify the cause of the incident, which includes any contributing factors.

PG RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper confirmed to MyPGNow, that police attended the scene but do not have conduct of the investigation.

In January, the BC Government announced a 20-million dollar facelift to the southbound bridge, which would include a full deck replacement and strengthening of the truss.

It is expected to improve conditions for the nearly 18-thousand vehicles that make the crossing every day.

The original bridge was first built in 1963 and serves as the main north-south route through Prince George.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
