Canning Circles coming to Prince George

REAPS and Everyone At the Table (EAT) will soon be teaching Prince George residents how to preserve food.

“We actually got the idea from a very successful canning circle in Fort St. John,” said Alex Rowan, a member of EAT.

“It also came out of research that many people’s skills around food preservation are being lost, and many people of the new generation are taking an interest in gardening and don’t know how to preserve.”

Rowan says the canning circle will most likely take place once a week.

“People could come as many times as they feel necessary, so some people will learn in one session, but some other people will want to come back three times to learn,” she said.

Rowan said that they will be working with a number of groups within the community, and will be working in collaboration with the South Fort George Resource Centre, who have a Northern Health approved kitchen the circle will be using.

Rowan added the project is also being done with support from a MyPG grant.
