An extra $2,876,000 is being tacked on to the Four Seasons Leisure Pool Replacement Project budget in Prince George.
The total cost for this project now sits at $39.126 million, rising from $36.25 million (And the original budget set at $35 million).
PG City Council will be discussing the topic during tomorrow’s (Monday) meeting, but the document submitted by Director of Civic Operations Blake McIntosh goes over these cost overruns.
“Roughly two-thirds ($1.7 Million) of these costs are attributed either directly or indirectly to the steel primer deficiency. As reported to Council last July ($1 M in cost estimate at that time), following the delivery of structural components to the work site, it was determined that the primer was specified in error and would require significant remediation work,” said McIntosh.
The document notes that they are trying to get compensation for those deficiencies, but that’s not the only thing causing this overflow.
“The remaining $1.1 Million of the cost overruns are largely due to external material or labour cost escalations for items such as wood, A/V equipment, painting, and signage, and unforeseen conditions such as unsuitable soils and existing piping beneath the pool tanks as previously reported to Council.”

Canfor is also looking to slap its name on the building, as a Naming Rights Agreement will also be discussed at Council.
The City would receive $75,000 annually for five years, with a potential for ten years.
If the agreement goes through, the building will then be known as the Canfor Leisure Pool.
The project is expected to wrap up by this Fall, with a minimum of 30 new employees needed.
Recruitment is expected to take place between May and August.
The City will also discuss a way to turn biogas into profit, and a piece of correspondence is being submitted by Together We Stand, asking for the City to work with people who have current or past experience with homelessness.
