WBC in PG delayed one year

The 4th World Baseball Challenge, scheduled for August of this year in Prince George, has been postponed until the summer of 2016.

“We had a target set for the amount of dollars we needed to raise by this time. With the resource sector, economy and the offset of the Canada Winter Games and everything else, we just couldn’t meet that target,” said WBC Chair Rick Pattie.

“Rather than put on a half-hearted effort and jeopardize the integrity of the event, we made the decision to reschedule for 2016 and the committee is excited to keep going forward.”

Teams from Cuba, the USA, Japan, Bahamas and host Canada were expected to compete this year. Pattie remains hopeful those five, plus one other, will make up the six team field in 2016.
