Incident sparks RCMP presence at 5th and Gillette in PG

Prince George RCMP investigated a report of a man walking in the area of 5th Avenue and Gillett Street tonight (Wednesday) at about 6:00 with a firearm.

“Thankfully, it turns out it was a young man walking with an airsoft rifle, said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

Cooper added, “this type of report will always generate an immediate and serious police response, as there is no way to identify an airsoft rifle from a real firearm at a glance. We thank the public for making this report when they saw something concerning to them.”

After locating him. police spoke with the man and believe there is no current risk to public safety.

RCMP is not offering any more information on the incident at this time.
