The Prince George RCMP are rolling out their ‘bait bike’ program to combat an increase in bike thefts in the community.
Since the program began at the end of May, the bike has been deployed four times, resulting in five arrests.
All of the suspects are known to police, and were released on Undertakings with future court dates.
“We plan to continue deploying the bike throughout the summer months, in an effort to slow this trend,” said PG RCMP Spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.
“One thing we want the public to note is that the thefts all occurred in less than 20 minutes, the fastest coming in at eight minutes. This is a crime of opportunity that does not take very long to execute, so there is not really a ‘safe window’ for leaving a bike unattended.”
In order to help identify your bike if it is stolen, here is some helpful information you can provide to police.
