Prince George bus revenue slightly down

A small decrease in transit revenue has been observed in Prince George.

BC Transit is noticing that the number of fares collected in the city dropped slightly from last year.

Northern Senior Regional Transit Manager Gina Curran says this usually happens when changes come to the system.

“So there was a fare increase, which impacts ridership. Every time you increase the fares by the certain percent, you lose a certain percent of ridership for a short time.”

She added that the free day during the Canada Winter Games hit their bottom line, but even bigger was the UNBC strike.

Curran says students are one of their biggest riderships and without them numbers are expectedly down.

It’s still too early to tell exactly how much revenue has fallen, but early estimates pegged it at under 5%.
