The kitchen will be a hectic place during BC Summer Games

All athletes competing at the BC Summer Games in Prince George should bring their appetites.

Food preparation plans are already underway with the opening ceremonies in exactly two weeks’ time (July 21st).

Director of Food Services, Erik Vliegenthart gave MyPGNow.com a preview of what it will take to pull off the first BBQ.

“We are going to be using 800 pounds of ground beef, up to 3-thousand burger buns so just something like that is pretty huge.”

He added breakfast and dinner will be served out of CNC feeding up to 600 athletes at a time.

Lunches will be prepared off-site at PGSS before being delivered to the sports venues across the city.

Vliegenthart added they are still in need of 150-200 volunteers to assist with the food services aspect during the games.

“The big thing is donations from sponsors as well as the volunteer time from the community. That’s the biggest thing.”

On Tuesday, Costco became the newest community partner. The store is providing an in-kind donation to the games of $50,000 worth of food.

The Summer Games run from July 21-24.
