After four days of competition, 39,000 meals served to 3,260 athletes, and 1,900 awarded, the 2022 edition of the BC Summer Games have come to a close.
The event wrapped up with a closing celebration in the parking lot of the CN Centre.
“I really can’t say enough about what this community did,” said Host Society President Renee McCloskey.
“It stepped up to the plate, both in volunteering and coming out to the events to cheer the kids on. We rolled out the red carpet, everyone that came to town commented on how fantastic this community is, we know it, and now the rest of the province knows it.”
McCloskey said based on the success of the event, the Northern Capital could host the event again.
“I think we’ve once again shown Prince George can do a fantastic job of any event we put our mind to, but not without the support of the incredible volunteers we have,” she said.
There were 2013 local volunteers for the event.
During the closing celebration, Mischa Grover of Kamloops was awarded the W.R. Bennett Award for Athletic Excellence, which comes with a $2,500 bursary.
