Local Chief supports Truth Reconciliation findings

A national inquiry for missing and murdered Aboriginal women is one of many recommendations made by the Truth and Reconciliation’s report.

Tribal Chief for the Carrier Sekani First, Terry Teegee says a lot of First Nation’s want to re-open the issue.

“A lot of First Nation’s across this country and I think some of the recommendation’s we have heard before but I think this reaffirms the issues that need to be dealt with right now.

Teegge adds there is no shortage of residential school survivors in Northern B.C.

“There’s a lot of survivors in the Prince George Area and in the northern regions of British Columbia a lot of the survivors that attended Lejac residential school are from the territories I represent.

Other suggestions include calling for the government to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples… as well as a formal apology from the pope on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church.
