Prince George’s unemployment rate took a tumble in August according to Stats Canada.
The jobless mark came in at 5.1%, down from 5.8% in July.
Labour Division Analyst, Vince Ferrao told MyPGNow.com our city saw a major spike in the number of people employed.
“The number of people working, we have 55,800 people employed this August – a year ago we had 53,200 people.”
“Specifically, the unemployment rate of 5.1 represents about 3,000 unemployed people. A year ago, there were slightly more at 3,700.”
BC has the second-lowest unemployment rate among the provinces at 4.8%, trailing only Quebec which is at 4.5.
“The 4.8% represents about 137,000 people unemployed. A year ago, we had 176,000 unemployed British Columbians,” added Ferrao.
For the first time in seven months, Canada’s jobless mark went up to 5.4% in August after it was 4.9 in July.
Our country’s economy lost about 40-thousand jobs.
