Third Prince George MLA proposed for 2024 provincial election

A new border proposed by the BC Electoral Boundaries Commission would give Prince George a third MLA in the upcoming provincial election.

The three ridings would be Prince George-Mackenzie, currently held by Mike Morris, Prince George-Valemount, currently held by Shirley Bond, and the newcomer would be Prince George-Cariboo, currently held by Coralee Oakes.

The borders of the two existing Prince George ridings would remain similar, with the south side of town now being represented by the Prince George-Cariboo MLA instead of Prince George-Valemount.

This means College Heights voters would be in a riding that is primarily populated by Quesnel residents.

Adjustments have been proposed for 71 electoral districts across the province, including the addition of six new districts in Burnaby, Kelowna, Langford, Langley, Surrey, and Vancouver, in response to population growth.

There will be a public hearing in Prince George regarding these changes on October 17th (Monday) at noon in the courtyard outside the Marriott.

The cutoff for public input is November 22nd, and the final version of the report will be released by April 3, 2023.

An online survey can be found here.
