Tourism PG launches new, outdoorsy virtual passport program

Sun or snow, Tourism Prince George says it is time to explore the outdoors.

They have just launched a new virtual passport called Hit The Trail, which encourages residents and tourists alike to visit 25 trails and outdoor areas.

“We know Prince George has some awesome trails in and around the city” said Tourism PG CEO Colin Carson.

He said there will be rewards for participating in the program.

“When you go to a trail, you check in at the trailhead using your smartphone. It tracks that through our system, once you have checked into 13 trails, you can get a water bottle and a bag from the visitor information centre.”

If you go to all 25 locations, Tourism PG will plant a tree in your name at Forests for the World as a part of Tourism Week next spring.

“What we want to see is people getting out and exploring the trails.. the long term goal is to develop these new passport programs” Carson said.

This is the second virtual passport that Tourism PG has launched, the Bites, Flights and Sights program gives rewards for supporting local businesses and restaurants.

According to Carson, 746 people have signed up for that first passport.

“These are just giving people activities to do and creating itineraries for people when they come visit Prince George. We want to highlight the great things that Prince George offers, and this is a new innovative way to do that.”
