PG RCMP investigating sixth homicide of 2022

A man in his twenties has passed away following a shooting at Connaught Hill Park.

According to the Prince George RCMP, the incident occurred just after 5 o’clock last night (Monday).

When officers attended the area they located the victim near the bottom of the blue stairwell who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Emergency crews transported him to UHNBC where he later succumbed to his injuries.

“The investigation is in its early stages; however, police believe this was likely a targeted event. Investigators with Prince George RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit are now looking to speak to anyone who may have information about the incident or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time the shooting was reported. If anyone has information about this incident they can call the non-emergency line at 250-561-3300 to speak with an investigator. Please quote file number 2022-41090,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

Cooper confirmed to MyPGNow.com this is the sixth homicide of 2022 in the northern capital.

PG recorded its first murder of the year on January 25th when the detachment attended the 1300 block of Porter Avenue to assist emergency crews with a man suffering from serious injuries.

The man was transported to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.

The victim was later identified as 38-year-old local resident Derek Mitchell, who was well-known to police.

March turned out to be a deadly month on our streets with two more homicides occurring in a 15-day span.

On March 12th, 44-year-old Robert Gordon Elliott was found inside a residence on the 600 block of Irwin Street.

On the 27th of that month, a man identified as Sahib Johal also succumbed to injuries sustained from gunshot wounds during an incident on the 1800 block of Spruce Street.

Johal was from the Lower Mainland and had gang affiliations. Johal and his associates were renting an Airbnb in the Lower College Heights area at the time of his death.

Cpl. Cooper confirmed to MyPGNow in an earlier interview the city’s first three homicides of 2022 were due to a rise in gang violence.

In June, police received a call for service at a commercial dwelling unit on Queensway, and information that a man had been stabbed.

When police and ambulance arrived at the scene, a man was found suffering from life-threatening injuries.

He was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was later identified as 28-year-old Devon Lindstrom.

Cpl. Cooper also told MyPGNow.com another murder did occur within the city but details will be not made public due to the sensitive nature of the file.

Last year, PG recorded six homicides, while in 2020 just one was tallied.

In 2019, the city had two murders.
