Pidherny Trail closures expected to start December 5th for wildfire risk reduction project

The BC Wildfire Service and Prince George Resource District will be conducting fuel management projects at Pidherny over the winter.

The purpose of the project is to make it easier for firefighters to defend the community against future wildfires, and it will create a critical fuel break around critical communication infrastructures.

Some risk reduction activities may include:

• Removing hazardous trees and flammable shrubs
• Thinning forested areas by cutting smaller trees and some mature trees
• Pruning low-hanging tree branches to help prevent fire from moving into tree tops
• Reducing woody debris and other fuels on the forest floor by piling and burning

While the work is being conducted, trail closures are at the Pidherny Recreation Site are expected to begin on December 5th.

These closures are anticipated to remain in place until February next year.

All access from the lower parking lot on Pidherny Road will be closed to the public during this time.

Some trails accessed through the Upper Pidherny parking lot off Foothills Boulevard will remain open.
